The Book That Started a Worldwide Movement

Before there were programs, courses, or even a name for it, there was a book that changed everything.

In 1999, A Thomas Jefferson Education introduced families a to a new way of learning, one centered on family, classics, and mentoring.

It sparked a movement of parents who wanted something more than checklists and standardized schooling.

Today, that same philosophy continues and expands through Leadership Education, building on the timeless principles that started it all:

  • Classics, Not Textbooks

  • Mentors, Not Professors

  • Inspire, Not Require

Whether you’re new to homeschooling or ready to reignite your family’s learning, this is where the journey begins.

"The best education consists of learning from the great books and great minds of history, combined with real-world application and mentoring."

An Honorary Mention: Local Communities & Co-ops

Co-ops can be powerful tools. For many families, they ease the transition out of public or private school by providing community, structure, and encouragement.

The beauty of co-ops is that they are parent-created and parent-led. Families come together to design what works for them for this season of life — and they adjust as needs change. A co-op should serve your family, not the other way around.

Our word of caution: Don’t let a co-op become the new “institution.” Remember — your loyalty is not to any group, but to your own children. Keep becoming the expert on your family, and adjust boldly when the season calls for it.

LeaderEd does not run or credential co-ops. Each group is independent, owned and directed by parents. These communities can be powerful tools of support — but no institution should ever replace a parent’s stewardship over their child’s education.
