Frequently Asked Questions

Every family has questions when they begin Leadership Education.

Here are answers to the most common ones —

short, sweat, and practical.

Getting Started

Common questions about getting started.

I’m brand new to homeschooling. Can I really do this?

Yes! Leadership Education is designed to be simple and flexible. You can start with one book, one family practice, or one mentoring session — and grow from there.

Do I need a teaching background?

No. Leadership Education is built on mentoring, not "credentialism". Your role is to learn alongside your children, modeling curiosity and growth.

Is Leadership Education just for homeschoolers?

No. Many families apply these principles while using public or private schools. Leadership Education is about creating a family culture of learning, not about a specific schooling method.

Principles & Phases

Common questions about the Principles & Phases.

What are the Phases of Learning?

They’re the natural stages of growth: Core, Love of Learning, Scholar, and Depth. Each child moves at their own pace, and your role is to support them in the phase they’re in.

What are the 7 Keys of Great Teaching?

They’re the timeless principles behind Leadership Education. We recommend starting with the 3 Core Keys (Classics, Mentors, Inspire), and growing into the rest as you go deeper.

Do I have to follow the phases perfectly?

No. The phases are a roadmap, not a checklist. Adapt them to your family’s needs and season of life.

Principles & Phases

Common questions about the Principles & Phases.

How much time do programs take each week?

It varies. Some families begin with 1–2 hours of classics and mentoring a week, while teens in LeaderEd High may engage for several hours. Start where you are.

Can my kids join programs if they’ve been or are in public/private school?

Yes. Many students transition from traditional schooling into YSS or LeaderEd High with great success. Mentors guide them as they adjust. And some students use these programs as an honors type program for additional reading and discussion.

Do I as a parent need to be in a program too?

Not required, but highly recommended. Parents who engage in Mentoring in the Classics or LeaderEd Depth often find their children thrive faster because the whole family culture shifts. Parents become great mentors faster and more effectively.

Community & Support

Common questions about Community & Support.

Are there official LeaderEd or TJEd co-ops?

No. All co-ops are independent and locally run by parents. Many use LeaderEd resources, but each group is self-directed. We encourage families to stay loyal to their children, not to institutions.

How do I connect with other families?

You can join our Facebook group (15,000+ families) for everyday conversation, or our free LeaderEd Forum for mentoring and resource discussions. Events and conventions are another great way to connect.

Do you offer direct support or coaching?

Yes. Through our programs, events, and mentoring services, families get direct access to experienced mentors who guide them along the way.

Practical Concerns

Common questions about Leadership Education and Practical Concerns.

What if my child resists reading or classics?

That’s normal. Model your own excitement first. Read aloud, share what you’re learning, and let curiosity spread naturally. Forcing creates resistance — inspiring creates momentum.

How much does this cost?

We have free resources, low-cost DIY courses, and advanced programs for deeper investment. Families can start at any level.

What if I try this and it doesn’t work?

There’s no failure here. Every attempt moves you forward. Leadership Education adapts to your season of life, and you’ll always be learning how to better mentor your family.
